Appointment Preparation Guide
Preparing properly for your tattoo session makes a huge difference to your experience and to how well your tattoo heals. Below is everything you need to know to make sure you’re ready for the day.
One Week Before Your Appointment
Take care of your skin – moisturise daily, but avoid overdoing it. Healthy skin makes for better tattoos.
Avoid tanning and sunburn – I cannot tattoo over sunburned or peeling skin.
No laser or fresh tattoos – don’t book another tattoo or skin treatment too close to your tattoo area.
Stay healthy – get enough sleep, eat well, and stay hydrated in the days leading up to your appointment.
The Day Before
Rest well – a good night’s sleep helps you sit comfortably for long sessions.
Avoid alcohol, drugs, and blood-thinners (like aspirin). These thin the blood and make tattooing more difficult.
Eat normally – don’t skip meals or fast before your appointment.
On the Day of Your Tattoo
Eat a good meal before you arrive – this keeps your blood sugar stable.
Bring snacks and drinks – water, juice, or light snacks are perfect. Avoid energy drinks.
Wear comfortable clothing – loose, dark clothes that allow easy access to the tattoo area.
Bring headphones, a book, or something to help you relax – many clients like to listen to music or podcasts during the session.
Charge your phone fully – useful for downtime or while getting tattoo.
What Not to Do
Don’t come hungover.
Don’t shave the area yourself (I’ll prepare the skin at the studio).
Don’t apply lotion, oils, or numbing cream before the session unless we’ve discussed it.
Don’t bring extra people – only clients are allowed in the tattoo area.
Mental Preparation
Tattooing always comes with some discomfort, but it’s manageable. Remember:
We can always take short breaks if you need them.
Focus on breathing and relaxing – the more calm you are, the smoother the process.
Preparation = a better tattoo and a better healing process.
Your appointment will take place at Sacred Gold Tattoo, Unit 74, Stables Street, King’s Cross, London, N1C 4DQ.
